Believe it or not, cabinet hinges are an important accessory to your cabinet hardware. Aside from their functional importance, cabinet hinges also brings a finishing look to entire kitchen. Often times people usually try to find cabinet hinges that match the cabinet aesthetics. You can also decorate their kitchens according to the traditional decor styles of their culture - Italian, French, Mediterranean and Mexican kitchen decorating are very popular design methods. These designs are e=included on the cabinet hinges as well.

Understanding Kitchen Hinges

There are various manufacturers and finishes to choose from when deciding on cabinet hinges. Cabinet hinges come in different styles including, but not limited to: knife, concealed, inset, wrapped, and free swinging. Before you decide what style you want, familiarize yourself with the functions of each type of cabinet hinge.
Concealed hinges are not visible when the cabinet door is closed.
Inset hinges - the cabinet door is recessed into the cabinet opening. If you can see a crack all the way around the cabinet door between the door and the frame, your cabinets are inset.
Wrap hinges- wraps around the cabinet frame from the front to the edge.
Free- Swinging hinges- does not have any closing mechanism and the door does not shut by itself.
Knife hinges - Concealed hinges that require a slot or saw cut into the door. The hinge mounts to the back of the door and to the edge of the face frame.

Take A Look At Other Kitchens

Most cabinet hinges fall into one of three categories; concealed, semi- concealed or non- concealed. All styles serve the same functionally. Its basically a personal preference as to which cabinet hinge looks the best with your cabinets. Cabinets Online suggest going to other kitchens and viewing the different hinges. Its easier to make a decision when seeing them on the cabinet rather than just viewing them in a package at the store.
